Wisdom and Knowledge

I've been thinking a lot about wisdom lately. Who do we label as wise and what makes them wise? I think we sometimes automatically equate age with wisdom, but that is not always the case. The sages in my life vary in age. The sages that I listen to are those who have taken the information they've gathered and have discerned how and when to utilize that knowledge. Knowledge for knowledge's sake is fine, but wisdom is the ability to know what to do with that knowledge. The wise people I know are brave people who, like Wisdom in Proverbs 8, know when to raise their voice in the streets and know when to restrain. Wisdom is staying woke to cultural currents and the Holy Spirit's fresh movements.

I encourage you to read Proverbs 8 in preparation for this Sunday. How is wisdom personified and what is the movement of wisdom?

Prayer: God, teach me the ways of wisdom. Help me to know what to do with the knowledge I have and discern when and how to use that knowledge. May the wisdom I glean not build my ego up but instead be of benefit for the entire community. Thank you eternally Wise One for being generous in guiding me. Amen.
